The Leftovers Collection
We’ve all seen it.
Broken, unwanted furniture piled up on the curb. But beneath the grim and failing glue joints is often solid hardwood. With a touch of careful reimagination, that same material can be transformed from overlooked waste into thoughtful new object.
From Trash to Opportunity.
The process of creating these vases starts with repairs on the repurposed lumber. Once completed, the wood is glued into blocks and ready for CNC machining. (A CNC is essentially a large machine that’s programmed to remove material with a spinning cutter.)
Each vase is made from two halves, with each side undergoing several rounds of machining in different orientations to achieve a seamless pasta shape.
This trio of vases is just the start of a growing collection featuring home goods made entirely from leftover material. The displayed selection is crafted from a repurposed ash tabletop, walnut headboard, and an ebonized oak desk.
Making things until I make it
Whether it be small objects or large furniture, I believe that design can be both sustainable and fun. If you’re curious about what I’m scheming up next, follow along on Instagram or TikTok @after5furnished, or visit our shop to see some previous projects.
